4THE ONLY THING....  Mar 11, 2011 By Steve B.
The product is EXACTLY what I needed & wanted. Looking for a suitable fire safe for my most important documents & other records at home. I live on top of a High hill so the Flood part is not a major factor.

It is not a Security safe. the latch can be easily broken. It is designed to be water & fire resistant NOT theft resistant.

With that said, The latch COULD be a little better! It is very cheap & junky in construction compared to the rest of the safe. almost like it was a plastic afterthought.

Otherwise I LOVE it!

5Not bad at all  Dec 27, 2010 By Michael
Pretty good safe, nice size, good features. Weighs about 40 pounds. FYI know that the lock is not really meant to keep a theif out, just to keep snoopers out. Overall not bad

5Much better than I expected  Nov 09, 2011 By Rebecca Morn "Technowitch"
Very good environmentally-protected storage unit.

- Heavier than I expected. The pictures don't do the SentrySafe HD4100 justice, because it just looks like plastic (and yes, that's what it is outside and in). But apparently there's some kind of concrete/foam that serves as the fire protection layer sandwiched between the plastic. Heavy, yes, but in my opinion not too heavy to haul to the car if necessary.
- This is not a security safe (not that I was expecting such). Yes, there's a key lock for basic privacy, but there's no way to bolt this down to anything and I'm sure I could crow-bar it open if I had to. That's not the point though: If you want a fire- and water-secure place to store important documents and maybe some thumb drives (or even a couple full-sized hard drives), this box seems just about perfect.
- Reading what others had said about the problems of an airtight enclosure and moisture build-up resulting in mold, I decided not to take a chance, and also bought a reusable silica gel cannister (Dry-Packs Indicating Silica Gel 40 Grams in Sturdy Aluminum Dehumidifying Canister - No Cobalt Chloride II - DP40CAN). It fits just fine in the bottom of the SentrySafe and doesn't interfere with the hanging file folders at all.
- If I had just one suggestion, it's the same as what others here have said: I wish the latch was sturdier; and I'll concur with the complaint one-star post, that if the hinge really is nothing more than plastic, they ought to reinforce it with metal -- I'd gladly pay 5-15 bucks more for that option if it was available. Failing that, I plan to remember to be careful not to leave the lid open and unsupported. That ought to be good enough.

Maybe it's not the most durable or fancy safe in the world, but it's a darned sight better than the cheap metal lockbox I'd been using for decades, and so I think it's a good value for the money they're asking (which isn't much). If you're looking for more durability, fancier construction, metal hinges and parts, I'd recommend looking into a pro-grade gun or valuables safe -- but also be prepared to pay hundreds of dollars more.

5Ideal for my requirements.  Sep 23, 2011 By Retired Navy Guy "Chief Cook & Bottle Washer, Gardner, litter box cleaner, fix-it guy, neighborhood dog/cat/ chicken/armadillo chaser & vet., AND, 'honey-do' expert."
I am very satisfied with this fire & water protection safe. It is perfect for storing documents that require that special protection such as insurance policies, personal financial papers and vehicle registration & house ownership.

It perfectly accepts standard hanging file folders for organization, is sturdy yet can be moved with a bit of effort. I would NOT recommend you store it on a standard closet shelf, it may be a bit heavy for that.

The internal "water-proofing" gasket seems to be well designed & positioned and could be replaced if necessary over time if it wears. The lock is good enough to securely hold the unit closed and gives protection from curious eyes. It is NOT a Security Safe. The lock could easily be broken into with a hammer & screwdriver or chisel, but it is not meant to be a security safe, but rather one for household use in protecting and preserving papers from fire, flood and storm damage. The fact that the lock can be fairly easily broken is actually an advantage in this type of safe as if one loses the keys it would not be too difficult to break into the unit without the cost of calling a locksmith, which would probably be more costly than replacing the unit.

The hinge appears to be of excellent quality and will stand up to years of frequent use.

Highly Recommend for those looking for this type of safe and if not expecting a "burglar resistant" one.

4safe review  Sep 08, 2009 By lenny cassalino "lafryer"
Safe is perfect for my needs. Not necessarily for
valubles. Files fit perfectly (taxes, passport,SS info, etc and other paperwork) There is a issue with some of the insulation (?) from the construction coming from somewhere on the inside. Not sure if this is cement or what that comes out each time I close the lid. Maybe it was dropped (?). I would purchase this again for the price and construction. Not sure how it would be to go through a fire. Looks like the contents would survive a fire but probably not the case lock which is a heavy duty plastic. A good value for the price and perfect for what I need it for.
