5Great cheap option for a fire- and water-proof safe that protects CDs & DVDs  Jun 18, 2009 By Dave™
I was concerned by the bad rating given by another reviewer but I bought this product anyway and I'm happy with it! Why? I read tons of reviews and comparison shopped (I'm that type of person) and it's the cheapest option I found for a fireproof and waterproof safe that is also rated for CD & DVD protection. I care about this because I back up important digital documents and photos onto optical media (in addition to a remote server and a NAS at home). For the specs I thought the price was excellent and I fit a surprising amount of stuff in mine. I don't care much about theft and how robust the lock is because someone can always simply walk away with a safe of this size. The outside is kind of slippery which makes it a little awkward to open and close, and the lack of a handle makes it difficult to carry around, but it's not THAT bad and I rarely have to open it anyway. I hope it's never put to the test but if my apartment ever burns down and subsequently floods (knock on wood) I'll let you all know how it goes.

1The locking mechanism is almost non-existant  Mar 06, 2010 By W5WMW "Radio Stations W5WMW and WPZE252"
I know this is supposed to be a lockbox, although Sentry's website advertises it as a "safe," the lock can be opened without the included key, simply by using a metal strip, such as a flathead screwdriver or even your fingernail (like the Sentry 1100). The latch inserts into plastic, making it easy to break off the front for entry.

Sentry's locks have been substandard for at least two decades. If they simply replace their locking mechanisms with useful analogues, I may be able to recommend this product as a simple Fire/Water resistant lockbox.

4Good price to protect from fire/water  Oct 07, 2010 By Jem
After spending days searching for a safe, and reading tons of reviews, I finally realized: if you want to protect yourself from theft you need to spend hundreds of dollars, even $1000+ to do so, or get a safe deposit box at a bank. Every small safe I found under $100 has locking problems. Every single one I looked at, on multiple sites. If you just want to protect your passports and documents from fire and water, something like this is just fine. The safe is heavy, has a decent interior size to hold important documents, some jewelry and other small media. Obviously, I have not tested this against an actual fire, or flood...but fireproof ratings are standardized, and this has a typical rating against a standard household fire.

My only gripe is that this is too thick to slide under a regular bed frame. Other than that, it does what I bought it to do, and for a reasonable price.

5Does what it's suppose to  Dec 20, 2010 By R. Fuentes "tony_iz"
Once we received our shipment for this safe I gathered all of our sensitive documents, threw them in the safe and locked it up. I put the keys in a secure location and end of story. If that's all you are looking for then this is the safe for you. If you plan on constantly closing and opening it, locking and unlocking it, of course you can expect some problems. It has moving parts. Whats the point of a safe you will constantly use anyway. The idea is to keep your important stuff safe from fire, water and hopefully theft. Lock it up and forget about it. Peace of mind comes from knowing you have a good chance of recovering those important items should a flood or fire happen.

Does what it's meant to do. Get it.

4Good Enough  Mar 24, 2011 By dpembert26
The safe has a good amount of space for all your essential papers etc. It does not have a handle that you can use to hold it. It is a bit heavy but not a hassel to pick up. The most important thing is that it is water and fireproof.
