Away from the elements Sep 08, 2010 I'm so glad I got this safe. It has plenty of space for household needs. I'm just out of college but it is nice to have a safe haven from fire and water for important things (papers, passport, titles, jewelry, or whatever you have of value). The compartment inside is perfect to hold a full size letter, unfolded flat on the bottom inside a plastic cover. It's surprising how much can fit in .36 cubic feet. I have lots of space left!
A few things that should be mentioned
-Some complain about the seal and that you have to push down to lock it. My safe had a paper tab hanging on the safe that instructed specifically to push down to engage the lock to create the water/fireproof seal.
-It's a safe that is protected from fire and water, not burglary rated. Unless you create a metal bracket around it and bolt it to the floor, it can be stolen. But that is not what you buy this for. You get this to keep your things safe from a fire or flood.
-Due to the mobility of the safe. I don't recommend locking up a firearm either. (There's a warning label inside against this as well). Only a matter of time elsewhere until a thief gets it open.
The lock and awkward shape (no handle, just some grip points) makes things just less easy to steal. Find a place you like and just leave it there. The barrel lock gives me a little more security after seeing youtube videos of other safes with a standard key being broken into with a coin or a quick rap to the mechanism with a hammer. Feels sturdy when it's locked down.
While researching these safes, I thought it's interesting that after a fire, the material melts around the compartment to seal in your contents and you usually have to pry it all apart after the fire department does their job.
Great Dorm Safe - Highly Recommended Sep 07, 2010 This SentrySafe 0.36 Cubic Feet Safe was the perfect size for my daughter's dorm closet. This safe is solid and is big enough to hold all of her small electronics (iPod, TI-89 Calculator, etc) and legal documents.
This is heavy and really is very solid, which should deter the average looter. My father told me "locks are meant to keep honest people honest", and this safe is good enough to resist most casual attempts at opening it.
Highly Recommended!

Pleasantly Surprised Aug 26, 2010 My H2300 arrived today and I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised. For the price, I was expecting something smaller and heavier. But the H2300 is roomy enough to fit two large textbooks inside and still light to lift onto a high shelf without strain.
I do agree with those who said that a handle would be a nice option. I'm also a bit concerned about how well the plastic latch release will hold up. But overall I'd say this item is a good value for the money.
One caveat: I would not recommend this item for a child or someone who is elderly and frail. The cover is heavy, and when opened to less than 90 degrees it falls closed rapidly. This is probably a feature (to ensure it closes watertight when closed but unlocked), but it could be a danger to someone without much strength in their hands. (It might also be difficult to open.)

Recognizing it for what it is Aug 24, 2010 This is not a safe to protect against thieves.
I have rated it four stars ASSUMING it will keep documents safe in case of fire or water damage. I have not tested it in this regard.
The reason I knocked one star off the rating is because of the locking mechanism. I don't understand why there is a lock to begin with. A thief could simply carry the entire "safe" off with him, but this is not necessary since a little force is sufficient to pop it open by hand while locked.
I had the safe in a deep cabinet, and was pulling it toward me by the handle when the locking mechanism gave way and the safe was opened. The handle used to open the safe is made of plastic, which would certainly melt in a fire (again, leaving the valuables inside unlocked).
Overall, as long as it does its job in case of fire or water damage, I'm pleased.

Good buy Aug 21, 2010 It's the perfect size for important household documents, and I got it at a great sale price. I can also fit my computer backup drive in there. It has a very tight seal. Wish it had a handle!
