Weigh items directly on the platform, on a plate or in a bowl, and pull the display away from the base to prevent shadowing from large plates and bowls. Accurately measure ingredients when cooking and baking and stick to a diet by weighing portions. An optional backlight makes the display easier to read and a weight indicator shows the capacity left on the scale before maximum capacity is reached. Press the zero button to offset the weight of a container or to set the weight back to zero so you can add additional ingredients. The display features large, easy-to-read numbers which measure in 1/8-ounce and 1-gram increments. The stainless steel platform can be removed for cleaning but no parts are dishwasher safe.  Perfect for precise measuring Sep 01, 2010
I purchased this when learning to bake bread, where exact and precise measurements are necessary. it is very accurate. That, and the ability to set it back to zero after adding every ingredient makes this perfect for my needs. Easy clean too.

My old scale (Polder, 6 years old) finally gave up the ghost recently, after misreading weights by as much as 100%, which really botched some homemade soap. I ordered the OXO based on reviews, and the fact that I didn't want to waste my time on a cheap scale. I love the large, square surface, and I love the pull-out screen. That makes weighing a large batch of oils for soaps so much easier, since the pot I use will fit on the scale, and even if it didn't, I could just pull the screen out. I love it that it weighs accurately within a few grams (that's accurate enough for me, anyway), and that the tare (zero) option is smooth as butter, and it's so easy to find a storage place, with such a slim design.
I did once have the problem of the scale timing out and turning itself off as I was trying to do a quick substitution in a recipe when I ran out of the first ingredient. I was sad, and prepared the substitution trying to remember how many grams it had read already, and then when I turned it back on, it had saved my place! Yay! I'm pretty happy with my OXO. Good design, accurate weighing, use it all the time.

I had an older scale that was a sliding type scale, and you could pretty well guess up to quarter pounds if the line was right on the quarter pound, half, 3/4 or pound mark, but it WAS just a guess how much you were weighing. Thought it would be nice to have a more accurate one, since I wanted to start weighing ingredients in recipes instead of measuring cups for more accuracy. I couldn't be happier with this scale...all the reviews that tell of the pluses are certainly true, and the size is perfect to store away, or leave on the kitchen counter. Oxo brands has come through again with a great product!

Easy to use. Like the memory hold feature, holds to the memory of the last dish place on the scale so you do not need to weight the dish again. Easy to clean and store.
