5Excellent slicer -- just don't put it in the dishwasher!  Aug 18, 2007 By The Passionate Mind "Mom and Reader."
I had this slicer for several years, and it is my all-time favorite. You can adjust the wire to get very, very thin slices, as well as much thicker ones. I don't know how thick the other reviewer wanted their cheese slices, but this thing can go far thicker than I'd EVER want on my sandwich . . .

My only word of caution: DO NOT EVER put this in the dishwasher. The brass screws that hold the wire in place will corrode and break, which means the end of the story. Handwashing it only takes about 30 seconds, and it's totally worth it for me to have thin, thin, thin cheese on my food. ;o)

5very nice  Nov 16, 2008 By R. Johnson "Billionaire"
I wanted something high quality & serious, not a piece of junk with plastic parts. I'm happy with it. It seems like a sturdy, high quality tool. There are no plastic parts and no weird, funky modern styling. It looks classic. That's how I like it. It looks much more beautiful in person than in the picture. The handle is a lovely chrome. The roller is a nice looking aluminum roller. It is held in place by two large brass screws with thumb wheels. I like the brass very much. The wire is tight and strong. It is held in place by two small screws and two brass nuts. It cuts cheese nicely. You can adjust it from very thin slices up to approximately 3/16" thick. That should be thick enough for most people. If you want it thicker you might as well just use a knife. I think cheese slicers primarily exist so you can cut thin slices of cheese. It comes with an extra wire. I am happy with it. I think it's a good value for $9. Easily affordable. I don't want to just live. I want to live in style! This cheese slicer helps me do that. I think it would make a good gift due to the nice quality. I generally buy the best kitchen appliances and implements that I can find.

5best slicer ever!!  Oct 19, 2007 By T. Williamson "Seesaw"
I had one of these a while back and I finally broke it after many years. I couldn't remember where I bought it, so I bought another kind from Williams-Sonoma. Broke it within 2 weeks. Found my original on Amazon and ordered 4!!!! One for each of my girls and 2 for me!!! Extremely sturdy...wouldn't have any other!!!

3Sturdy but Flawed  May 21, 2009 By Jeff Grundman
This slicer is very sturdily built and I expect to get years of use out of it. My complaints are that the wire is a bit to thick and the roller too sticky.

I am sure the wire will last much longer than a thinner one would but it tends to tear the cheese as it exits the block. I would have made the compromise between functional and durable a little farther to the functional end of the scale.

The adjustment range on this slicer is huge but it cannot cut slices as thin as the depth adjustment allows. The aluminum roller is so sticky that thin slices roll up around it. With extreme care reasonably thin slices can be cut but the process is fussier than it should be.

Even with it's shortcomings this is a very good slicer. I have an Oxo as well (that only cuts slabs) but I almost always reach for this one first. Now that I have given up on super thin slices we are at peace.

5Excellent value  Feb 20, 2011 By Steve in Houston
Very solid. Not at all like a cheap kitchen gadget. Nice weight, and has a substantial feel . Consistent slices . Easy to clean.
