When cooking a delicate sauce, or melting chocolate, it's important to use low, gentle heat. This diffuser adds a layer of protection between the burner and the bottom of the pan, yet its perforations allow heat to get through. Protect your beautiful pots and pans with this heat diffuser.

5Love mine!  Jan 19, 2010 By L. Mccullough-delorme "little orange"
I love this and use it with my electric stove-I'd probably use it with gas too, but understand why some think the wood handle is dangerous. A heat diffuser makes it possible to keep tea in a ceramic pot warm for hours, or coffee in a French Press warm throughout the morning. You can use in on a burner to melt chocolate in a pot; it eliminates the need for a double boiler. It can be used to keep soup warm and even makes using terra cotta on your burners possible.

Perfect when you don't have a heavy bottomed pot and need something to keep your caramels, soup, stews, butter etc. from scorching.

Over time they turn dark and look well-seasoned. They come in a variety of styles, but I love mine with its wood handle.

They are inexpensive and indispensable.

2It does work though..  Jun 14, 2009 By Kryler
I've been using my diffuser for about 10 years now. Sure enough, when you first fire up the heat, there is some smoke. It'll pass quickly enough if you actually use it the first time. On the other hand, if you fire it up, panic when you see the smoke and shut it off, then it will do the same the second time... and so on. The odor (after the smoke era) is subtle but you're aware of it. I found after about 4 years the wooden handle got loose due to the wood gradually turning to charcoal. But it doesn't come off.

Now after all that being said; it works perfectly! I've been very happy with the performance of this diffuser. It allows for mild heating of the most delicate sauces without fear of scorching. And, as it has a handle, you can move it easily as well as perform the TIP below.

Considering the pricepoint, it is quite the deal.

TIP: When using this to continue heating something at a very low simmer, preheat it by firing up one side first, then flip it over and lower the heat. It will save the 'catch-up' time to keep the simmer.

3It works, but needed "fixing."  Apr 15, 2009 By BooksByCategory.com
The wooden handle burned (no flames) on my gas stove. It didn't fit well to begin with. We fixed it with a bent coat hanger. It works.

1melts and smokes  May 04, 2009 By pragmatist
this thing stank up my kitchen with acrid smoke and started melting out of shape with a low to medium flame on the stove.

5Fast shipping and as described.  Oct 27, 2010 By The Enchanted Bookshelf
Inexpensive and works fine. You may want to heat this up for the first time on a burner outside if possible, there is a stinky residue inside the unit that needs to be burnt off the first use. The handle does get a little darkened with use, not a good "display item" but a good and inexpensive heat diffuser.
